The Prof. Dr. Max Cloëtta Foundation is awarding its well-known prize for medical research for the 46th time. This year, the awards goes to a neurologist and a rheumatologist. Prof. Dr. Botond Roska, Professor at the University of Basel and Director of the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel, and Prof. Dr. Oliver Distler, Professor at the University of Zurich and Director of the Rheumatology Clinic at the University Hospital Zurich, will be honoured for their outstanding research work.
Prof. Oliver Distler, rheumatologist and clinician, is honoured for his ground-breaking research and innovative therapies in the field of systemic sclerosis. Amongst other topics, he is working on a project to validate a new, highly sensitive imaging methodology using special antibodies that can be used to detect the development of this autoimmune disease at an early stage. Oliver Distler regards the understanding of the further development of the disease as a huge gain as this enables influencing the course of the disease, despite the cause still being unknown.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, 8 November 2019 at 5 pm at the University of Basel.
